More Online Star Wars Properties Go Offline, Sony and Lucasarts Announce End of Life for Galaxies

Slashdot.org reports that Sony and Lucasarts announced the end of life for Star Wars Galaxies, the massively multiplayer online game set in the Star Wars universe. December 15, 2011 is the day for Galaxies and the accompanying collectible card game (aka trading card game). Many reports of the uneven execution of Galaxies kept me away from the game. Now, I wish that I had devoted some time to try it out for myself. Unfortunately, I don’t think that I have the spare time to try it out before its servers go silent. Sony Chief Howard Stringer Given to Overstatements Regarding Security

Sony’s CEO Howard Stringer is reported to have made an amazing overstatement today regarding the massive security breach of the Playstation Network: “We are up and running, and we are safer than ever” (via Sony Chief Howard Stringer Likens Hackers To Mujahideen). Perhaps by “ever” he means “before, we were running a wide-open version of Apache with nary a security update or firewall in sight, but now, we have implemented some semblance of protection for our customers’ online data.” Find out more about how easy it was for the “hackers” to break through or merely hop over Sony’s less-than-watertight defenses here.
