Artificial intelligence (AI) technologies are rapidly becoming a de facto part of modern life and work at a pace that feels much faster than Alvin Toffler imagined for his historical moment in Future Shock (1970). Unlike some naysayers, I think that there is a lot of potential in AI technologies if we use this moment to assert agency and work toward democratizing the technology for the benefit of all rather than the supremacy of the few. This is the moment where we all need to seize William Gibson’s aphorism, “the street finds its own use for things.” This is especially true for the new kinds of generative AI technologies, including ChatGPT, Stable Diffusion, and others. As I’m reading about and using AI technologies, I will share my reading and link resources on this page for others to use. A primary focus will be on pedagogy and teaching, but it includes a lot of information on background, use cases, AI and its effects on other disciplines, and legal/ethical issues, too.
