Family of Three Live in 320 sq ft Custom-Built House, Cost $20,000, No Mortgage

I dig the video embedded above. It is about a family of three living in their 320 square foot, custom-built house. Their floor plan, furniture placement, and appliance arrangement seems elegantly designed to maximize the available space. Also, they paid $20,000 cash for the house, which means that they don’t have a mortgage payment. The idea of paying cash for a home definitely appeals to me. My Mom and Dad did this in the early 1970s before I was born when they purchased their single-wide trailer for $10,000. Today, trailers are substantially more expensive than they were in the 1970s. I am honestly surprised that the tiny house in the Youtube video above only cost $20,000. It certainly wouldn’t be difficult to build a house of that size or larger on your own, but it might be difficult to get everything approved for local codes. I suppose you could call out professionals to review your work and sign off on it, but I do not know if all professionals would do this and if they would, I do not know how much they would charge. Interesting inspirational ideas for the future, and certainly something to look into further when Y and I know where we will live when we complete our degrees at Kent.
